The team has outlined a tentative 8-race schedule that will feature a number of OSCAAR Modified Tour events at speedways across Ontario – all of which will be over 700kms away from Hearty’s Sault Ste. Marie, ON home.
“We’re either incredibly crazy or incredibly dedicated,” jokes Hearty. “It’s not easy but we love competing with the [Southern Ontario] teams. We’ve always enjoyed ourselves down in that end of the province – regardless of what the results sheet says at the end of the night.”
Each race night is forecasted to cost the team in excess of $1000.00 and Hearty is in the midst of rallying sponsors to make the process easier. At press time, Hearty’s team plans for three visits to Sunset Speedway, two visits to Peterborough Speedway, two visits to Kawartha Speedway as well as the OSCAAR Modified Tour’s inaugural race at Jukasa Motor Speedway.
“The [OSCAAR Modified] Tour wasn’t in a good place two years ago,” says Hearty. “But the way things are now – with the schedule and the high car counts – I’m as excited as I’ve ever been. I came real close to selling off my Modified program in 2016 but I couldn’t be happier that I still have it. We’re ready for a big season.”
With over 20-cars expected for each tour event in 2018, Hearty knows he’ll be against stiff competition, but is hopeful to continue his team’s recent improvement with the cross-province tour.
“We’ve gotten a little better every time we’ve had the car out of the trailer,” explains the personable veteran. “We don’t have a setup genius or a chassis guru on our team. We’re a group of regular guys with regular jobs that just try and have some fun on the weekend.”
“I’m proud of how far we’ve come,” continues Hearty. “If we could put together a top-5 this year I’d be over the moon. That’s our number-one goal for the season – but as long as the team is having fun I’m going to be a happy man.”
