ROCKTON, ON – Flamboro Speedway regular Kevin Albers has confirmed his team will be a part of this Sunday’s ‘Grisdale Triple Crown’ portion of the annual Frostoberfest weekend.
The Pro Late Model event will consist of a trio of 50-lap features that are expected to attract the elite of the division from all corners of Ontario.
“We’ve won regular season races at Flamboro, but I know the Triple Crown is something completely different,” explains the Rockton, ON racer.
“When you’re racing three times in one day you have to be so careful about every move that you make. If you push things, and try to rush, you can go from hero to zero in a real hurry. It can be an expensive day for you.”
The 2017 season has seen the former Flamboro Thunder Car champion reach new heights in the Pro Late Model ranks, having worked tirelessly to become a weekly threat in the speedway’s burgeoning headline division.
“I feel like this has been a huge transition year for our team,” smiles Albers. “We’ve had a real solid mid-pack car for the last three years – but this season we’ve taken those much needed steps to jump into the top end of the division. It’s been a labour of love, for sure. But I wouldn’t go back and change it for anything.”
On the topic of what a ‘Triple Crown’ victory during Frostoberfest weekend would mean to his low-budget team, Albers makes sure not to mince words.
“Winning the ‘Triple Crown’ would be a career win for us,” smiles Albers. “We just have to go in there knowing that it’s going to be a lot of give and take. The winner is going to be the guy with the least amount of marks on his car at the end of the day.”
“It’s every bit as much about surviving as it is about having the best car. We’re going to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way on Sunday and make sure we don’t beat ourselves. If we can do that, we just might be rolling this car back into the trailer in one piece with the trophy on the roof.”
