CAMBRIDGE, ON – On the heels of a positive finish to the 2017 campaign that was well-documented from a rocky start, Fan favourite JR Fitzpatrick is ready for a fresh start – beginning with April 28th’s Flamboro Speedway Pro Late Model season opener.
“Opening Night is going to be the beginning of a whole new chapter for our team,” says Fitzpatrick. “That’s a huge deal. We didn’t have the season that we wanted in 2017, but that’s behind us now and it’s time to look forward. I think we have a program that can make major waves this year.”
The former NASCAR Pinty’s Series standout dedicated his off-season to self-reflection, and is now headed for his first race of the year with a clear head and renewed confidence.
“It’s real easy to sit at home and get down on yourself when you’re in the middle of a season that isn’t going your way,” admits the second-generation racer. “You start wondering if you really belong in this division or if you should step back and go do something else with your time.”
“It was important for me to get home and spend time with my family and put some time in at the shop to get all the negativity of last season out of my head,” continues Fitzpatrick. “I feel great coming into this season. I have confidence in what our team is about. If you knock us down seven times – we’re going to get up eight.”
Now, in preparation for his first ever fulltime Flamboro Speedway Pro Late Model campaign, Fitzpatrick insists his 2018 plans are rather simple.
“We’re coming to win races and chase a championship,” offers the former OSCAAR Super Late Model Series champion. “That might be easier said than done – but that’s the reason we’re coming to Flamboro. That’s where we’re setting the bar for ourselves. Anything less will be a disappointment.”
