COLDWATER, ON – To say that freshman Pro Late Model racer Jade Franklin is looking forward to his APC United Late Model Series debut would be a considerable understatement. The former Sunset Speedway Super Stock standout has declared his intentions to contend for the series’ Rookie of the Year title in 2018 and knows how vital a strong start to his campaign will be.
“We’ve been preparing for this event for three months,” explains Franklin. “This weekend is going to bring a lot of eyes to Sunset and every single guy on our team wants to perform at their best and take advantage of that. We want to start this season off on a positive note.”
For Franklin, three years of racing in Sunset’s notoriously talented Super Stock division was always a precursor to joining the Pro Late Model ranks and – this Saturday – the Coldwater, ON racer will have his first opportunity to rub shoulders with Ontario’s elite.
“There’s no other way to put it – these are the best teams in Ontario,” says the well-spoken freshman. “We’re coming back to Sunset with everything that we’ve got. We’re going to prepared and we’re going to be focused because we know what kind of competition will be there waiting for us.”
“I expect this style of racing to be completely different from anything I’ve ever experienced,” continues Franklin. “Things are going to happen quickly on Saturday. That’s just a byproduct of Short Track Racing – but even more-so when you have cars that are this fast and drivers that are this talented.”
“We’ve learned that the best way to get around in any style of car is to trust your instincts. So, that’s our strategy from the opening laps. We’re aiming to qualify strong, stay out of the rough stuff and keep all four tires pointed in the right direction.”
