Chad Corcoran Senses Opportunity in APC Series Rookie Season

STAYNER , ON – Second-generation racer Chad Corcoran will chase APC United Late Model Series points for the first time in his career this season. And, while the tour unquestionably provides the biggest challenge of Corcoran’s career, the young driver also sees an invaluable chance to further establish his low-budget team as one to watch for years to come.

“The APC [United Late Model] Series is most definitely the number one test for anyone in the province right now,” explains Corcoran. “It seems like all the best teams are either on the tour or trying to find a way to get to the tour. It’s the deep end of the pool, for sure.”

“If we can come out and hang with these guys I think it’s going to show people that the success we had in 2017 wasn’t an accident,” adds the Milton, ON native. “This level of competition is going to show us real quickly where we’re at and how much work we need to put in to get where we want to be.”

Corcoran cut his teeth in Flamboro Speedway’s entry-level Mini Stock division and moved to weekly Pro Late Model competition at the facility in 2017 to critical acclaim. After earning a number of podium finishes, Corcoran hinted late in the season that his team planned on transitioning to the cross-province APC Series.

“I think it’s going to teach us a lot about who we are as a team,” says the second-generation competitor. “If you don’t have everything in order when you unload for one of these races you’re swimming upstream. We need to make sure we’re all as good as we’ve ever been. I can’t wait to see where we stack up next to the best guys in the province.”

When asked his goals for 2018, it’s clear that Corcoran is keeping his expectations tapered as he prepares to hit the road for the first time.

“I really don’t know what to expect of myself next season, if I’m being honest,” laughs the soft-spoken youngster. “I’m just going to make sure I’m there at every event ready to work and even more ready to learn.”

“We’re ready for the challenge no matter what. It’s a gigantic opportunity to come out and race against the best Pro Late [Model] guys in the region and we’re absolutely going to make the most of it.”
