GEORGETOWN, ON – Longtime Late Model car owner Joe Jessup has announced his family-run team has hired provincial standout Jeff Hanley to contest a full fledged run towards the 2018 APC United Late Model Series championship.
“I can’t think of anyone else that I would sooner have in our car to chase a championship like this,” explains Jessup. “Jeff is one of the best racers I’ve ever seen and it’s an absolute pleasure to work with him. He’s wanted to put together an APC [United Late Model Series] program and so have we. This has been a few years in the making for us”
And while the cross-province series has been known to attract some of the most well-funded teams in the sport, Jessup insists his operation is dedicated to finding a way to contend whilst maintaining a modest budget.
“We don’t have the means to come out and start outspending the rest of the guys on the roster,” admits the veteran owner. “Right now we’re in the midst of trying to put together some sponsors just to help with expenses throughout the season – but even if we can make that happen our strategy is going to be to outthink the competition instead of just cutting a bigger cheque than them”
Jessup credits the level of talent on the tour but knows that adding a wheelman like Hanley will provide his team with an instant chance of contending for their first career series championship.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll be up against the best of the best with every event,” says Jessup. “The APC Series is the best thing going right now and it has the deepest roster in Ontario. Our team is ready to give Jeff anything he needs to run at the front on a weekly basis. With his setup ability and driving style I think we stand an excellent chance of contending for a championship.”
