Blair Wickett Tallies First Pro Late Model Win of Flamboro Speedway Season

CAMBRIDGE, ON – After showcasing continuous improvements through the first three weeks of the Flamboro Speedway season, Pro Late Model rising star Blair Wickett broke through on June 9th for his first feature victory of the young 2018 campaign.

“There really isn’t any such thing as luck in a division as strong as this one,” explained Wickett prior to loading his family-owned No. 97 at the end of Saturday’s event. “The guys on this roster aren’t in the business of taking it easy on you or spotting you an inch.”

“You have to work for everything you accomplish here,” continued the Mini Stock graduate. “So any time we can stand around at the end of the night with a trophy on the roof of the car – we know that we’ve done good. It’s an awesome feeling. Definitely something I’ll never get tired of.”

After a 2017 rookie season that saw Wickett challenge for wins on an almost nightly basis, the soft-spoken up-and-comer is comfortable with where his family-owned program is at the moment – and is confident with where it appears they seem to be heading in the near future.

“I don’t think there’s any question that our team is on the upswing right now,” smiles the Cambridge, ON native. “We’ve come a long way in the last two years. It’s been a lot of trial and error but I’m real comfortable with where we are right now. It means so much to know that we’ve put so much into this program and it’s starting to really pay off each and every Saturday.”

Still, as satisfying as the first win of the season can be, Wickett knew immediately that he was only hours removed from having to start work anew to chase wins all over again.

“We’ll make sure that we enjoy this feeling tonight but the work is going to start all over again tomorrow morning,” said Wickett. “That’s what makes this division so difficult to run up front in. It evolves so fast and guys get better and better every week. So, you can go from victory lane one Saturday and then end up outside of the top-15 the next week.”

“We never want to get left behind. So we’ll take a look at everything that we liked about tonight and make sure that goes in the setup book and then we’ll take an even longer look at the things we feel could have performed a little better.”
