BRAMPTON, ON – Having worked through the most trying year of competition in his career, Sunset Speedway Ltd. Late Model regular Billy Zardo is more than ready to move past this season’s misfortunes and look ahead to better days.
The Brampton, ON native went winless in 2017 and missed a multitude of events with mechanical issues.
“I’ve never had a season challenge me the way this one did,” admits Zardo. “When nothing is going right all you can do is go home and think to yourself if this is really what you want to do. It took a lot of soul searching. But I know that our team is better than this and I know that I can get us back to winning races.”
The third-generation racer credits his family-owned Zardo Racing team for supporting him throughout the year as they ready themselves for what they hope will be a momentous comeback in 2018.
“I can’t imagine my team reacting any better to the type of season we just had,” says ‘Z3’. “These guys never gave up and they never stopped working. No matter how bad things got our team never let it kill their spirit. That means the world to me. We’re already in the shop getting ready for next season – so that should tell you exactly where our mindset is.”
Zardo has tentative plans to return to fulltime Sunset Speedway action in 2018 – with his sights set firmly on contending for his first career Ltd. Late Model championship.
“That was the longest year of my life – but it’s over now,” says Zardo as he leans forward for emphasis. “We’re done talking about what went wrong and how hard it was. Now, we’re about looking ahead and what needs to be done for us to be back at the front and back winning races. We’re ready to outwork anyone. Don’t count us out.”
