Third-generation Super Stock racer Coltin Everingham turned in the most impressive performance of his career with a 4th place finish in Peterborough Speedway’s ‘Chase for the Colours’ invitational event on July 7th. This Saturday, the third-year competitor will be back in weekly NWAAS action at Sunset Speedway in search of his first top-5 of the season on home soil. The Innisfil, ON product has worked overtime this season to make headway in a division dominated by top-end talent, and he’ll continue his relentless search for improvement on July 16th.
Steadily advancing with each passing week is Sunset Speedway Super Stock sophomore Dustyn Mombourquette. At just thirteen years of age, Mombourquette is one of the youngest drivers on the roster, and has continually shown maturation beyond his years with his ability to digest constructive criticism and experience in order to display an innate improvement in each of his starts thus far in 2016. The son of multi-time Sunset Speedway feature winner John Mombourquette, there’s no doubt that Dustyn will be prepared for contention in no time if he continues his studious approach to weekly Super Stock competition.
One of the true originals of the Ontario Midget scene, Rob McCall will return to action this Saturday when the Outlaw Midgets roll into Sunset Speedway for their second visit of the 2016 season. McCall has logged as many laps behind the wheel of one of these cars as anyone on the roster, and should pose a viable threat to Jody Bound and Jessica James who made their presence known during the tour’s first stop at Sunset last month.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the 2016 Sunset Speedway MIGHTY Division season has been the performance of third-year competitor Doug Wilman. The Orillia, ON native has displayed a stark improvement already this year, and has utilized a wildly consistent approach to grind his way to 4th in the division’s points standings. Still in search of his first career feature triumph, Wilman could give his championship aspirations a considerable shot in the arm with a trip to victory lane this coming Saturday.
A Super Late Model legend that needs no introduction – Jeff Hanley will roll into Sunset Speedway on Saturday afternoon with his sights set on his first Avenue Auto Parts Super Late Model Series win. The Georgetown, ON standout has turned in a pair of fan-friendly back-and-forth battles with current series point leader Brandon Watson already this season, with Watson coming out on top in both events. Rest assured, Hanley will carry with him considerable motivation this Saturday to keep Watson in his rearview and seize control of the mini-series points standings entering 2016’s second-half.
